Discontinuing canvas.place

After almost 3 years of operation, we have decided to make the difficult decision to discontinue canvas.place.

When we first started it in April 2017, we were excited by the community and filled with passion for the future of the project. Today, few members of that community remain, and as administrators we are unable to devote the time required to meet their needs. For these unfortunate reasons, it no longer makes sense to continue running this service.

Although I know this news may disappoint our remaining users, it is unfortunately an obvious choice as much as it is a sad one. Our userbase has dwindled from those mid-2017 numbers, and canvas activity has nearly slowed to a halt.

Because of this, we have made the decision to end canvas.place. We appreciate everyone who took part in this wonderful experience and who helped us reach the community we did.

What’s next?

We plan to keep canvas.place alive with a read-only map of the canvas. Usernames and place totals may be kept. Further details about this will be posted soon.
